BIOREACTORS
The anthropocentric epoch is always imbued with symbols for domination. Something towers over something, enforces structure, laws and organization. Something thinks that it grants order. Something creates laws and a hierarchy, own rituals and paths to promotion. Some structure is ruled through a queen, representatives or usurpers. Creates subjects and discreates them.
The time of the virus obliges to see the universalism of nature. Through art we look at the direction or non-direction of imposing one’s will, or maybe just co-dependence. Revising the meanings of AKA Elvin Flamingo’s works, his ant bioreactor and the works from the period of his hospital therapy I add the reactor of a clinical hospital. Here mix the meanings and roles of actors, the direction of domination. Elvin when creating his ant colonies, Elvin when being subjected to the actions of physicians and finally those physicians in their kingdom befallen from their pantheon by the virus. Treacherous and known, when in our cocksureness we have forgotten that we do not dominate, that the mechanism of regulation is not subjected to us. Mere a few thousand years ago someone invented the most classical and portable fictional idea: “Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.” Is he going to bluntly follow it still?
But tomorrow will come. Are we going to realize the conclusion? Are we going to revise this anthropocentric nonsense? Will the hermits on top of their towers see how funny and frail these are? Are we going to find a place of balance or bury ourselves deep into a carnival of death? I have no idea, but we must think today.
